This collection consists of records regarding the People Republic of China’s bid to host the 2000 Summer Olympics in Beijing. It contains news clippings and press briefings communicated through the National Security Council cables and emails. The press materials address unsuccessful Chinese efforts to win the bid, reaction of a United States House of Representatives communicating opposition to the bid on human rights grounds, and reaction to the final selection of Sydney, Australia as the host of the 2000 Olympics.
