This collection consists of Gene Sperling's files related to Japan. Sperling served as Deputy Director of the National Economic Council from 1993 to 1996 and then as NEC Director from 1996 to 2001. This collection includes articles, briefing books, clippings, correspondence, graphs, newsletters, notes, papers, press statements, remarks, reports, and tables. This collection consists of the findings and views of the Department of State, Treasury Department, and the National Economic Council on Japan’s economic, financial, and political challenges and also efforts to strengthen Japan’s economy. The collection also focuses on trade with Japan, especially with flat glass and steel.
