This collection consists of records related to Alfredo Cristiani, Oscar Romero, Pedro Carmona Estanga, Raul Castro, and Roberto D’Aubuisson. It consists solely of emails most of which are in the public domain, such as media reactions and summaries, press materials, news wire reports, and news articles. The bulk of the emails pertain to the controversy over the U.S. Army School of the Americas, now known as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation. Alfredo Cristiani served as President of El Salvador from 1989-1994. Oscar Romero was a Roman Catholic priest and Archbishop of San Salvador known for denouncing social injustices and human rights abuses in El Salvador. He was assassinated in 1980 during the Salvadoran Civil War. Pedro Carmona Estanga is a Venezuelan economist and businessman. He was named Acting President of Venezuela from April 12-13, 2002, during a coup d'état attempt against Hugo Chavez. Raul Castro is First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and was President of Cuba from 2008-2018. Roberto D’Aubuisson was a Salvadoran military officer, death squad leader, and co-founder of the Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA) political party
