This collection consists of the files of Eric Liu, the Deputy Director of Domestic Policy from 1999-2000. It contains notes, memorandums, correspondence, speech drafts and legislative policy plans for the final year of the Clinton administration. It topics include: the budgeting and appropriations process, campaign finance reform, civil rights issues, crime and gun control, education, the Family and Medical Leave Act, food safety, gay rights, hate crimes legislation, health care, immigration, philanthropy, national service, tobacco lawsuits, welfare to work issues, and school shootings. The collection also contains extensive notes, drafts and mark-ups for President Clinton’s 1999 State of the Union speech.
