Stanley Flemming - Collection Finding Aid

This collection consists of correspondence from members of the military and the legislature as well as medical professionals in Washington State and California recommending Stanley Flemming to the position of Surgeon General in early 1995. Flemming also wrote expressing his interest in the position. Henry Foster was nominated in 1995 for the position, but never confirmed. Ultimately Audrey Manley was appointed acting Surgeon General from 1995-1997, and in 1998 David Satcher was appointed Surgeon General by President Clinton.
