Description

This request was for records related to President Clinton’s May 9-12, 1995 trip to Moscow, Russia. On the same trip the President also stopped in Kiev, Ukraine to meet with Leonid Kuchma, President of Ukraine. President Clinton traveled to Russia for Victory in Europe, or V-E Day, commemorations marking the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II. The focus of the summit however was a one-on-one meeting between Presidents Clinton and Yeltsin and two plenary sessions. Clinton discussed economic and trade issues, including economic reform and privatization of formerly state-owned companies. They discussed Russian efforts to join the World Trade Organization and for Russia to implement an Oil and Gas Framework Agreement. Most importantly however, there were a number of security issues that the U.S. wanted addressed, including Russian relations with Iran.
