This collection consists of material related to the 1995 rape of a 12 year old Okinawan girl by three U.S. servicemen stationed on the island and the subsequent discussions of the closure of Futenma air base. It contains correspondence between members of Congress and the President and correspondence from other concerned citizens about the rape incident and more broadly about the presence of U.S. troops in Okinawa. It also contains press reports, briefings for various administration personnel visiting Japan, and emails between National Security Council staff about MCAS Futenma and about the Special Action Committee on Okinawa's report.
