This collection consists of records relating to the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). The FTAA was a proposed agreement to eliminate or reduce the trade barriers among all countries in North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The collection includes material from committee meetings and working groups that discuss rules and procedures for FTAA, market access, dispute settlement, standards, technical barriers to trade, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, government procurement, agriculture, intellectual property rights, and competition policy. The files contain memoranda, correspondence, news clippings and magazine articles, handwritten notes, briefing books, telegrams, brochures and reports.
