Lithuania - Collection Finding Aid

This collection consists of records related to Lithuania. Located in Northern Europe on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea, Lithuania proclaimed its independence from the Soviet Union on March 11, 1990. Records include letters, memoranda, email, cables, and news articles regarding various topics, including Lithuania’s desire to join NATO, the European Union, and the World Trade Organization; the controversial Williams Oil deal; the trial of alleged Nazi war criminal Aleksandras Lileikis; and the expulsion of Russian troops from Lithuanian soil. Also included is routine head of state correspondence between President Clinton and Lithuanian Presidents Algirdas Brazauskas (1993-1998) and Valdas Adamkus (1998-2003).
