Cloth. Batik. Purple ground with metallic gold cowerie shell pattern of four shells in a cross, over black petals in a repeat pattern on polished cotton. Black printing on selvedge: "Sotiba Simpafric."

This bolt of batik cloth was one of the gifts from Abdou Diouf, President of the Republic of Senegal, and Elisabeth Diouf, First Lady of Senegal, to President William J.Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. The cloth is made of sotiba simpafric and surprinted of metaliic gold cowerie shell pattern of four shells in a cross over black petals in a repeat patttern on polished cotton on dark purple ground.
