Description
FOIA 2012-0769-F (Segment 2) contains the files of Kathleen “Katie” McGinty. From early 1993 to the end of 1994, McGinty served as Deputy Assistant to the President for Environmental Policy and Director of the Office on Environmental Policy. In January of 1995, she was named chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), as a senior advisor to President Clinton. She remained there until November of 1998. Prior to her White House appointment, McGinty served as Senator Al Gore’s senior legislative assistant for energy and environmental policy. In this capacity, McGinty was instrumental in drafting the Clean Air Act. As CEQ director, McGinty was responsible for advising President Clinton on all matters of international and domestic environmental policy. Following her time at the White House, McGinty was a counselor to Vice President Gore during his 2000 presidential campaign, led the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and later ran unsuccessfully as governor and U.S. senator from Pennsylvania in 2014 and 2016 respectively. As of March 2018, McGinty serves as an environmental advisor on various corporate boards.
