I guess Jim Tallons had Bill Cunningham call me -- this is the information I was given
8:30 program gets under way -- 1100 health care providers, hospital managers, union leaders, Long
Island and New York City people, ard numerous

party officials.
This is the fifth time they have done the John F. English Award
First there is a welcome by Jim Shuart, President of Hofstra, who will then welcome Jim Tallons
(President of the United Hospital Fund), will moderate panel. Jim will ask ea. panelist a q. and
after ea. have ansewered the q, eveyone else will have at it.
Mike Dowling -- Chief Operating Officer, Comes out of Democratic politics, former Commissioner of
Social Services for Cuomo,

Kathleen Gafner, Comm. of Nassau County of Department of Health
Dick Gottfried A state assembly member who chairs NY's State Assembly Health Committee, and
is from Manhatton
,
Pearl Kamer -- Chief economist for Long Island Association, which is basically the major Chamber of
Commerce for Long Island. She runs the reserach arm of the Associaiton and has done a number
of studies on health care from the employer perspective, wi a focus on the uninsured and other
issues.
Alan J. Placa -- Functional head of :Catholic.Health Services of Long Island -- has 4 major hospitals,
and number of clinics, nursing homes
Dennis Rivera -- head of local 99, SEIU. He and Ken Raske (Greater NY Hospital Association -- a
trade association for the hospital) were honored last year wi John English Award. (Major b?lttle
going on now withPataki on state budget because Pataki has proposed significant cut backs in'
�Medicaid.)
This panel discussion runs 8:30 to 10:30. She arrives at 10 or 10:15, andproceeds immediately to
a meet and greet with 60 major movers and shakers in NY's health care universe.
(Competition for tickets has been overwhelming.)
Harold will introduce First Lady; slile will make her remarks and then after she speaks, she will be
presented with the John F. Englishi award by Basil Patterson; an African American partner at
Harold's firm. (Basil· Patterson was appointed Secretary of State by Cuomo.)
