FIRST LADY HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON
,VIDEOTAPED REMARKS: CELEBRITY ROAST HONORING
CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE
" :HOUSTON, TEXAS
OCTOBER 15, 1998.
'Sheila, on behalf of the President, I want to'say how much we wish we could join you and the ,
Texas Democratic Women to roast you in person.
.
.
When my husband talks wit~ Congres, swoman Sheila Jackson Lee he usually gets in only one
word: "Yes." Over the yeats he's learned that what Sheila wants, Sheila gets, one wayor the
other, and it's just easier to say yes right from the start.
And that is' exactly what Sheila has al~ays done wherever the lives .of women, children, and
families are at stake. She said yes to adoption reform and fair bankrUptcy reform. By founding.
the Children's Caucus, she said yes to putting children at the top of our national agenda. And she
said yes when asked. to lead.the Democratic Freshman Class of the l04th Congress.
One other thing we've learned is that Sheila Jackson Lee is one of the most steadfast friends this
administration has on Capitol Hill. And Sheila, you've not on1y been a tremendous friend to us,
you've also. been.a greatfriend and supporter of your constituents in the 18th Congressional
District, and of every family in America.
)
On behalf of your mends here in Washington, I want to say thank you; and before I forget, the.
President says, "Yes."
