PRESIDENT CLINTON NOMINATES JOSEPH EDWARD LAKE AS
AMBASSADOR TO THE REPUBLIC OF ALBANIA
The President today announced his intention to nominate Joseph Edward Lake,
of Texas, as Ambassador to the Republic of Albania.
Mr Lake entered the Foreign Service in 1962, serving in Taiwan, Dahomey
(Benm), Nigeria, Bulgaria and Mongolia, in addition to assignments in the Department
of State in Washington. His most recent assignments include Consul, Kaduna,
Nigeria, 1978-1981; Deputy Chief of Mission, Sofia, Bulgaria, 1984-1985; Adviser,
U.S. Delegation to the 41st United Nations General Assembly, 1986; Director of the
Operations Center, Department of State 1987-1990, and Ambassador to Mongolia,
1990-1993. Currently he is a Senior Examiner, Board of Examiners, Department of
State.
Mr Lake was bom in Jacksonville, Texas on October 18, 1941. He holds a
B.A. and M.A. from Texas Christian University and speaks Chinese and Bulgarian.
He is married to the former Jo Ann Kessler. They have three children, Joseph, Mary
Elizabeth and Michael.

This collection consists of White House press releases from the files of P.J. Crowley. Crowley served as Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and Senior Director of Public Affairs the National Security Council from 1997–1999. The press releases are arranged by subject or, as in the case of the Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents, by date.
