STATEMENT OF THE MFA OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION
AFTER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF QUIET ON THE FRONT IN THE
KARABAKH CONFLICT, THE GUNS HAVE OPENED UP ANEW. THE
VIOLATION OF THE TEMPORARY CEASEFIRE WHICH WAS
ACHIEVED BETWEEN AZERBAIJAN AND NAGORNO-KARABAKH AND
SET TO CONTINUE UNTIL NOVEMBER 5 WITH THE MEDIATION
OF THE RUSSIAN MFA PRODUCES DEEP DISENCHANTMENT AND
CONCERN.
DESPITE THE INSISTENCE OF THE RUSSIAN MEDIATOR, THE
SIDES HAVE BEEN UNABLE O UNWILLING TO STRICTLY
R
DEFINE THE LINE OF ENGAGEMENT, TO FULFILL THEIR
OBLIGATIONS REGARDING THE WITHDRAWAL OF ANY
UNCONTROLLED UNITS FROM THE LINE OF ENGAGEMENT, AND
TO WORK OUT A MECHANISM BETWEEN THE SIDES FOR DEALING
WITH VIOLATIONS.
AGAINST THIS BACKGROUND THE KARABAKH ARMENIANS
STARTED AN ATTACK IN THE SOUTHWESTERN REGION OF
AZERBAIJAN, BEYOND THE LIMITS OF THE TERRITORY OF
NAGORNO-KARABAKH.
THIS MEANS A FURTHER SPREADING OF
THE CONFLICT, WHICH HAS PARTICULARLY CATASTROPHIC
