MEMORANDUM TO CABINET PRESS SECRETARIES
FROM:
Michael Waldman, White House
Anne Lewis, Department of Labor
RE:
Reemployment A^btJkdedia-,
DATE:
June 28,' 1994
I.
Purpose
The Reemployment Act is clearly a priority for the President this year, but still some
Members are not familiar with it. For that reason, we need your assistance in raising
the visibility of the bill and in generating support among key Members.
We expect committee mark ups to take place in July. Since the committees are likely
to tinker with the specifics of the bill, we believe it's crucial to increase people's
awareness of the Reemployment Act both before and during the markup process.
Our immediate request is to have you conduct interviews with the top three radio
stations and the major print outlets in each of the assigned media markets, before
Congress returns from its July 4th recess.
II.
Message
III.
We ask that you concentrate in those interviews on the problems with the current
system and the urgent need to create a new reemployment system to replace the
outdated unemployment system. Message talking points are enclosed.

Description
An account of the resource
<p>Michael Waldman was Assistant to the President and Director of Speechwriting from 1995-1999. His responsibilities were writing and editing nearly 2,000 speeches, which included four State of the Union speeches and two Inaugural Addresses. From 1993 -1995 he served as Special Assistant to the President for Policy Coordination.</p>
<p>The collection generally consists of copies of speeches and speech drafts, talking points, memoranda, background material, correspondence, reports, handwritten notes, articles, clippings, and presidential schedules. A large volume of this collection was for the State of the Union speeches. Many of the speech drafts are heavily annotated with additions or deletions. There are a lot of articles and clippings in this collection.</p>
