Scope and Content
Deanne Benos worked as an Associate Director in the Domestic Policy Council from September 1999
through the end of the Clinton Administration. Her area of expertise was in law enforcement, gun
control, crime prevention and related topics. She worked closely with Department of Justice personnel
on these issues. Subjects include advertising, background checks, the Brady Law, Columbine and other
mass shootings, the COPS program [Community Oriented Policing Services], the crime bill, cyber
crime, crime events, elder crime, drug control, gun control, enforcement, injuries, polls, manufacturers,
shows and trafficking, gun buy-back program, gun-free schools, ongoing federal lawsuits (John Schmidt
binders), youth violence. Records consist of agendas, books and publications, briefs, emails, legislation,
letters, memos, news clips, meeting notes, press releases, reports, speeches, and talking points.
